JoyceDeWitt began her stage career at the age of 13. At the age of 13 DeWitt started performing on stage. She earned an undergraduate degree from Ball State University. Subsequently, while she was performing in summer show, the director convinced her to attend UCLA's Department of Theater MFA program,where she received the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship and the Clifton Webb Scholarship. While at UCLA she worked as a secretary until her first appearance on TV in an episode of Baretta.Contrary to the rumor that she was mentored by actor Abe Vigoda, Dewitt has said that the two did not meet. DeWitt is best known for her role in Three's Company's 1977-1984 run as Janet Wood. This was a job that she got after being selected for the second pilot. Janet was also featured in the episode of The Ropers in the year 1979. Following the show's conclusion, Three's Company ended in 1984, DeWitt appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in the year 1984, following which she resigned from acting for several years. In June of 1991, she returned to acting performing in Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. In the following year, she appeared in the 1995 TV comedy film Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain featured characters inspired by her voice, which was performed by a different actress in 1997. She was featured in an episode Cybill. Six of her TV shows of the 2000s include Hope Island and The Nick at Nite Holiday Special as well as Call of the Wild.
